Got a new CPU 1214C DC/DC/DC for the bench rig, the label says firmware V4.6. TIA Portal V18 on the lab laptop.
In the hardware catalog the 1214C only goes up to V4.5, and Change device version on my existing CPU lists V4.0 to V4.5 and nothing above, so I can't make the project say V4.6. I configured it as V4.5 and the download worked, the CPU runs, but TIA shows a difference between online and offline in device view and I'd rather have it right. I closed and reopened TIA and had a dig through Options for an update setting, nothing there.
Is the CPU a different order number that wants a different catalog entry, or is V18 just too old for V4.6? Not sure which way round this goes. Maybe V18 just predates that firmware, but then I'd expect there to be something I can install and I can't find one.
Read the full order number off the CPU. 6ES7 214-1AG40-0XB0 is the current one and V4.6 runs on it, and if that's what you have its a catalog thing, not a hardware thing. If it ends differently, that's a different conversation.
6ES7 214-1AG40-0XB0, same as the old one on the rig. So what's missing in the catalog? And what's an HSP, I saw the word in a search result but not what it stands for.
Hardware support package. V18 shipped before V4.6 existed, so the catalog doesn't know about it. Siemens publishes an HSP for the new firmware and you install it into TIA, then the version turns up in the catalog and in Change device version.
Options, Support packages, in TIA. The dialog downloads from the Siemens support site if the laptop is online, otherwise fetch the HSP file for the S7-1200 V4.6 CPUs elsewhere and add it from a file. Install, restart TIA, pick V4.6. Your V4.5 configuration on a V4.6 CPU is allowed, configured may be lower than real, so nothing was wrong, only the online offline difference. Support package, not an update, V19 isn't needed.
