Customer sent us a .ACD from a machine we shipped in 2014 and wants a change to the reject timing. The file is RSLogix 5000 v20, controller is a 1769-L32E, and our laptops today have Studio 5000 v33 and v36 on Windows 11.

Double clicking the file opens Studio and it says the project version 20 is not installed, then stops. Opening it from inside v33 with File, Open gives the same message, and I tried changing the file extension, which was silly. We do have an old v20 disc in a drawer somewhere.

Is there a way to convert the file up to 33 without the old software? The customer isn't going to change controller firmware for a timing change. Any suggestions before I go hunting for that old disc?

Which v20 do you have on the disc, 20.01 or 20.05? The version matters. Studio 5000 starts at v21, it doesn't open v20 at all, and there's no convert-up path that doesn't go through v20 first, pretty sure. Changing the extension, no.

disc says 20.01. So that's the one that wouldn't run on Windows 10 presumably.

Yes. I think v20.05 is the release that runs on Windows 10 and 11, and 20.01 won't. Download RSLogix 5000 v20.05 from the Rockwell download center with your v20 serial and install next to Studio. The file opens in place, edit the timer, download at v20. Longer version of which version opens what: https://plctr.com/rockwell-plc-softwares/

20.05 downloaded and installed side by side, took about an hour with the activation. Opened the file straight from the desktop and it picked v20 on its own, which surprised me. Changed the reject timer, saved a copy with the date, customer downloaded it this morning and it's running.

So Studio 5000 simply doesn't open v20, and the disc we had was 20.01, which won't run on 11. v20.05 next to Studio, no conversion, controller untouched.

The reject timer we commissioned at 300ms in 2014 was apparently always too short and nobody said a word until now. That one's on us.

Thanks rsdave and hannah.

Keep that 20.05 installer somewhere safe. You'll need it again.
