I'm trying to get output current off a PowerFlex 525 onto a PanelView Plus 7 so the operators stop walking down to read the keypad. CompactLogix 5380, the drive is in the I/O tree already and running fine off the periodic connection, so the plan was one CIP Generic MSG on a 2 second timer for the b003 value.
The MSG sets .ER on the first scan it runs and .ERR sits at 16#0005. Not intermittent, every single time. I gave it its own MESSAGE tag at controller scope in case the old one was shared, put a one shot ahead of the rung so it can't retrigger, and downloaded twice. Still 0005.
Am I right that 0005 is the class or the instance, or can the path throw that as well?
Firmware on the 525, and what version of Studio 5000 are you on?
And paste the four boxes off the Configuration tab exactly as they sit on the screen. All four, the numbers you can see, not the ones you meant to type. Half of these come out of that dialog looking nothing like what the person remembers typing.
Studio 5000 v34. Drive firmware I'd have to go down and read off the keypad, I'll get it in the morning.
Off the screen, Service Code e, Class 15, Instance 3, Attribute 1. Source is blank, destination is a DINT called PF2_Current. Communication tab path is the drive, browsed out of the tree, not typed.
Path, then. Browsing it out of the tree gets you the drive's slot in the tree, not necessarily the route the message takes when the adapter is doing the forwarding. I'd type it out by hand, port 2 and the IP, and see if it changes anything.
Typed it by hand, 2, 192.168.1.14, and put it back on the browsed one afterwards to be sure I hadn't broken anything. No change either way, still 0005 on the first scan. Three days on this now and I'm a bit stuck.
Then it isn't the path. On a Data Table Read 0005 usually is, but a CIP Generic errors the path as 0001 with an extended code in a different member, so a bare 0005 is the class or the instance and those are the two you typed.
Look at Class 15 again. Those boxes take hex, so what you sent was 16#15, which is 21, and the drive has no object 21. The parameter object is 16#0F. Put 0F in and leave the rest alone.
If I remember right the dialog only says Hex in small grey type beside the boxes. There's a write-up with the code table and which box each code points at: https://plctr.com/msg-instruction-path-type-error-codes/
Class 0F and it read first try, 4.1 with the drive on the blower, same as the keypad says on b003.
So it was never the path or the tag. I typed a decimal 15 into a box that reads hex and asked the drive for class 21, which it has never heard of. The dialog does say Hex, in grey, to the right of the boxes, where I hadn't looked once in three days.
What I'm still not sure about is the instance. Instance 3 works for b003, but I got there by trying 1 then 3, not by finding it written anywhere. Thanks rsdave, and louk, the hand typed path is staying in now I know what's in it.
Everything in that dialog is hex. Learned that one the same way.
