Hey all,
Palletizer, 1756 L61, RSLogix 5000 v20. A contractor was in two weeks ago for the new stretch wrapper handshake and since then the palletizer waits an extra 3 or 4 seconds before the pusher on every layer. No notes, no rung comments, nothing.
I've got the ACD from before his visit on the server and the one he left on the panel laptop, so I opened both side by side, 40 routines31, and gave up after an hour. Then I tried the compare inside RSLogix and all it says is that the project is different, it won't tell me where. Contractor's on holiday for three weeks and I'm out of ideas.
Is there a way to see what changed between two ACD files without reading the whole lot? Any help would be appreciated, it's been a long night already.
Same v20 on both? And is the desktop file what's actually in the controller? Upload and check that first or you'll spend the night diffing the wrong two files. I've done it.
Both v20. Uploaded, went online with the desktop file, no differences reported. So the desktop one's what runs. The server one is from March.
V17 here, but it's the same job on either side. Two ways.
Logix ships a compare tool with RSLogix 5000, in the Rockwell Software folder, RSLogix 5000 Compare on v20 if I remember the name right. Open it, pick the two ACDs, it lists changed routines and rungs and you click through them.
Second opinion, and it's the one I trust more: File, Save As, L5K on both files, then a text diff tool, WinMerge or whatever IT allows. You see the exact instruction that changed and any tag values that changed with it. On TIA it's the compare editor plus exporting blocks, same idea.
Then a dated copy after every visit, yours and his. There's a writeup on keeping copies straight: https://plctr.com/best-practices-for-plc-program-documentation/
Before you rip out whatever he added, find out why. A 3 second wait in front of a pusher usually has a reason, even an undocumented one.
Compare tool found it in ten minutes. Routine Pallet_Out, rung 14, a new TON with a 3500 ms preset sat in front of the pusher and not a word of comment on it. The L5K diff showed the same rung and nothing else had moved.
So the contractor put a 3.5 s wrapper handshake timer in and told nobody. We dropped it to 1000 ms after production said the wrapper's ready in under a second, watched a shift, no crashes. There's a folder on the server now with a dated ACD after every visit.
Lou, I don't know why 3500. I'll ask him when he's back. Thanks tomhw and louk.
Ten minutes against your hour. Still want to know where 3500 came from.
