TP1200 Comfort on a new packing machine here, TIA V17 Update 6, WinCC Comfort, and this is the first transfer to the panel. Download to device runs the compile, finds the panel over PN/IE, then stops with "The project cannot be transferred because it is not compatible with the version of the device", or close to that wording. The panel came new out of stock and it boots to the Start Center normally.
So I tried USB instead of Ethernet, exactly the same message. Then I made a new empty project with nothing in it but the TP1200, same again, so it isn't something I've done in my project.
Do I need a different version of the panel, or is the file damaged in some way? An empty project with nothing in it but the panel failing the same way is the bit I can't get past, any ideas what it's actually comparing?
Is that the same as the TIA version? On my bench rig the KTP has a device version in the project and something else called an image on the panel itself, and I've never worked out whether they have to match or why. Screenshot of my properties dialog attached, mine says V16.
They're different things, pretty sure, but I don't know which one is wrong here. On the panel, Start Center, Settings, there's a version page. It says image V15.1, if that's the number you mean. The panel sat on the shelf for two years.
V17 here too and I've done this to myself. The panel image is V15.1, the project's device version is V17, and the runtime that gets transferred has to match the image on the panel. Newer project, older panel, it refuses. Not the file, not the cable.
Two ways. Drop the device version in the project to match the panel, right click the HMI, Change device/version, pick V15.1, which also drops any V17 only features. Or bring the panel up to V17: Online, HMI device maintenance, Update operating system, with the panel sitting in the Start Center. Ten minutes over Ethernet, the panel reboots, then transfer normally. ProSave does the same from outside TIA if the Online menu won't see it.
Stock panels carry whatever image was current when they were boxed.
Tried Update operating system from the Online menu. It ran to 30 percent and stopped with "Connection to the device was lost". The panel's now on a blue screen saying it's in update mode and nothing else. Have I broken it?
Probably not. That's the bootloader waiting for the rest of the image. Power cycle it, ours have always come back to the Start Center on the old image. If yours doesn't, ProSave has a reset to factory settings that talks to the bootloader directly. Then do the update again with the laptop on a direct cable, no switch, Wi-Fi off. The switch is usually what drops it halfway.
Direct cable, Wi-Fi off, Update operating system ran through in about eight minutes. Panel rebooted to the Start Center showing image V17. Transferred the project, first attempt, runtime's up on the machine.
So the panel image was V15.1 after two years on the shelf, the project's device version was V17, and that's what the transfer was refused for. Update operating system from the Online menu, over a direct cable, sorted it.
I'm still not sure why the first attempt died through the switch. It's a small unmanaged one and TIA had no trouble finding the panel through it. Thank you tomhw, and annaz for the image question.
