Morning all. First rack I've built on my own, so go easy. ET 200SP for a new conveyor section, IM 155 6 PN ST and six modules, all bought as parts and clicked onto the rail. Config done in TIA V18 to match and downloaded to the 1515 that runs the line.

IM has ERROR solid red. Every module shows a red X in device view and the buffer says something like "Backplane bus error" on the station, then module not present for each slot. The IM itself is reachable, I can see it in accessible devices with the right name. I power cycled twice, put a new PROFINET cable on and reseated every module, and none of that changed a thing.

My guess is the IM firmware is too old for the modules, they're all new. Can that be it? Or is it something about clicking a rack together out of loose parts that I've got wrong, I guess that's more likely than firmware.

Photo of the right hand end of the rail, after the last module. And the firmware number off the IM label. Firmware is rarely it, but post it anyway.

Firmware on the label is 4.2. Photo attached. After the last module there's just empty rail, the six modules and then nothing.

There's your problem. An ET 200SP needs the server module on the end, the small grey thing that comes in the box with the IM, it closes the backplane bus. Without it the bus is open and the station never comes up, so every slot reads missing.

Look in the IM box, it's usually under the paperwork. Clip it onto the last BaseUnit, power cycle, and the IM goes green. It doesn't appear in the hardware config, V18 assumes it's there.
